The video on this product page shows our current batch of Swiss Cheese Plants available for purchase. You can see the actual batch we are selecting from, including their current size, fullness, and trailing growth.
Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera adansonii) is a tropical vining houseplant known for its distinctive green leaves filled with natural holes called fenestrations. With its lush foliage and trailing growth, it looks beautiful cascading from a shelf or hanging planter—or it can be trained to climb a moss pole or trellis as it grows.
Your plant arrives fully rooted in a 4-inch nursery pot and shipped in soil, making it easy to bring home and begin acclimating to your indoor space.
What You’ll Receive
- One healthy Monstera adansonii in a 4-inch nursery pot
- Trailing growth from our current batch
- Fully rooted and shipped in soil
- Carefully selected for health, fullness, and proper moisture before shipping
Our product photos and video show the current batch from which we select your plant.
Because plants are living organisms, natural variations in size, fullness, vine length, leaf shape, and fenestration are expected.
Why We Ship Rooted in Soil
We ship our plants rooted in their nursery pots rather than bare root whenever possible.
Keeping established roots in soil helps protect the root system during transit, reduce transplant shock, and avoid adding immediate repotting stress while your plant is adjusting to a new environment.
Monstera adansonii Care
Light
Bright indirect light is ideal. Avoid prolonged harsh afternoon sunlight, which may scorch the foliage.
Water
Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil begin to dry. Monstera adansonii appreciates more consistent moisture than drought-tolerant houseplants, but the soil should not remain constantly saturated or waterlogged.
Soil
Use an airy, well-draining potting mix that can retain some moisture without becoming waterlogged. A chunky aroid-style mixture containing materials such as potting mix, orchid bark, and perlite works well.
Humidity
Prefers moderate to higher humidity but can adapt to typical indoor household conditions.
Temperature
Warm indoor temperatures around 65–85°F are ideal. Protect from cold temperatures and frost.
Pet Safety
Not pet safe. Monstera species contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.
Trailing or Climbing Growth
Monstera adansonii is a vining tropical plant that can be displayed in different ways as it grows.
Let the vines cascade naturally from a shelf or hanging planter for a beautiful trailing houseplant, or provide a moss pole, trellis, or other support and allow it to climb.
Its characteristic fenestrated foliage gives Monstera adansonii its popular common name, Swiss Cheese Plant.
Carefully Packaged for Shipping
Each plant is carefully secured before shipping to help minimize movement and protect its foliage and trailing vines during transit.
Depending on the plant and its size, we may use protective paper, support materials, or corrugated inserts for additional stability and protection.
Cold Weather Shipping
For plants traveling through freezing temperatures, we highly recommend adding a 96-hour heat pack.
Plants shipped through freezing conditions without appropriate cold-weather protection may experience cold damage.
