Always wanted to grow your own coffee beans? Well now you can! The Coffee Plant (Coffea arabica) grows well indoors and produces coffee beans. The Arabian coffee plant native to Ethiopia, can grow up to 15ft tall, however you can prune it at the size that you prefer. It will flower in the spring with small white flowers and then bear half-inch berries that gradually darken from green to blackish pods. Each of these fruits contains two seeds, which eventually become the coffee beans you use to brew your coffee. This plant requires a bit of patience as it will typically take a few years before your plant produces flowers and subsequent fruits, the good news is that this plant can live up to 50 years!

Light: Bright indirect light. Or slowly introduce soft morning direct light. They do not thrive in direct sunlight and will burn if exposed to harsh direct sunlight.

Temperature: 60-80F. Higher temperatures can accelerate growth, but higher temperatures are not ideal for growing plants for their beans. The fruits need to ripen at a slow, steady pace.*

Soil: Rich, peat-based potting soil with excellent drainage. Coffee plants prefer acidic soil.

Water: The soil should stay evenly moist but not waterlogged. Never allow the soil to dry out completely.

Pet Safe: No, toxic to cats, dogs and horses. Mildly toxic to humans. Please keep out of toddlers reach. Toxic principles are Saponin.

Do you accept returns or replacements?

Answer: We do not accept returns or send replacement plants. If your plant arrives significantly damaged, email emeraldhouseplants@gmail.com within 24 hours of the USPS tracking status changing to “Delivered.” Include your order number and photos of the plant and packaging. We review each claim individually and may offer a partial refund or, when the circumstances warrant it, a full refund of the affected plant’s price. A full refund is not automatic. Will my plant look exactly like the photos and video?

Answer: You’ll receive the listed variety and pot size, selected from our current plants, but each plant varies in fullness, color, and variegation. Some listings include a clearly labeled mature-plant photo to show how the plant may look as it grows; it does not show the size you’ll receive.

When available, the batch video gives you the best look at the plants currently being selected for orders. We date these videos when possible, but plants continue to grow, so yours may be larger or look a little different by the time it ships. If a listing has no batch video, email emeraldhouseplants@gmail.com before ordering to request an updated look.

Shipping Questions

When will my order ship?

I usually ship within 2 business days, but please allow up to 5 business days for processing. Weekends and U.S. federal holidays do not count as business days. You’ll receive tracking when your order ships. If shipping is temporarily paused, the next shipping date will be posted on the website. [Read our Shipping Policy.]

How will my plant(s) ship?

Your plant ships rooted in soil in its nursery pot. We secure it inside a corrugated shipping box to reduce movement during transit.

What should I do when my plant arrives?

Answer: Unbox it promptly and check the plant and soil. If soil spilled but the plant is intact, gently return it to the pot. Check the soil before watering, and place the plant in light appropriate for its species. Give it time to adjust before repotting or fertilizing; repot when the plant needs it and is actively growing, rather than by a fixed season.

A little leaf damage can happen during shipping. If your plant arrives significantly damaged, email emeraldhouseplants@gmail.com within 24 hours of the USPS “Delivered” scan with your order number and photos of the plant and packaging.
