I started Emerald Houseplants in Los Angeles on October 10, 2020. My connection to plants also runs through my grandmother’s nursery, where I still regularly care for plants and help customers with questions all about plant care which also includes questions on fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides etc. 

Emerald Houseplants is a small shop I run myself. I source many of my plants through my grandmother’s nursery and its longtime growers, then select, care for, photograph, and pack the plants I sell. I’m happy to help with plant questions in English or Spanish.

I have a B.S. in Plant Science and a Minor in Integrated Pest Management which was obtain from The Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Where I learned in classrooms, greenhouses, and the field. My studies included plant physiology, soil science, plant biology, plant pathology and ways to identify and manage pests. I’ve also spent years gardening and growing fruits and vegetables. My grandmother's nursery  gives me a place to use that knowledge while caring for plants and helping customers.

I want you to know what plant you’re buying, what you’ll receive, and how to care for it in your own space. Plants are living things, so useful advice starts with understanding their conditions rather than following one rule for every home.

My interest in plants goes beyond the ones I sell. I love learning about pollinators, gardens, and the relationships between plants and the wildlife around them. That curiosity inspired Pollinator of the Week, a series where I share a closer look at the creatures that visit our gardens and the plants they depend on.
