The Goldfish Plant (Columnea Nematanthus) is a epiphytes, and a very popular hanging houseplant that has flowers that resemble a goldfish. This plant is native to Central and South American tropics. Due to the fact that it is a epiphytes it receives most of their moisture and nutrients from the air around them and most of their energy from photosynthesis (where water and carbon dioxide, in the presence of sunlight, combine to form the glucose that is essential for their growth). When using a fertilizer, chose a liquid fertilizer.

Light: Around 12 hours of bright light per day. Avoid direct sunlight as it will dry the plant and scorch the leaves.

Temperature: 65-75 F and mild to moderate humidity.

Soil: Well-draining potting soil. prefers to be pot bound.

Water: Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry completely between waterings.

Pet Safe: Yes.

Do you accept returns or replacements?

Answer: We do not accept returns or send replacement plants. If your plant arrives significantly damaged, email emeraldhouseplants@gmail.com within 24 hours of the USPS tracking status changing to “Delivered.” Include your order number and photos of the plant and packaging. We review each claim individually and may offer a partial refund or, when the circumstances warrant it, a full refund of the affected plant’s price. A full refund is not automatic. Will my plant look exactly like the photos and video?

Answer: You’ll receive the listed variety and pot size, selected from our current plants, but each plant varies in fullness, color, and variegation. Some listings include a clearly labeled mature-plant photo to show how the plant may look as it grows; it does not show the size you’ll receive.

When available, the batch video gives you the best look at the plants currently being selected for orders. We date these videos when possible, but plants continue to grow, so yours may be larger or look a little different by the time it ships. If a listing has no batch video, email emeraldhouseplants@gmail.com before ordering to request an updated look.

Shipping Questions

When will my order ship?

I usually ship within 2 business days, but please allow up to 5 business days for processing. Weekends and U.S. federal holidays do not count as business days. You’ll receive tracking when your order ships. If shipping is temporarily paused, the next shipping date will be posted on the website. [Read our Shipping Policy.]

How will my plant(s) ship?

Your plant ships rooted in soil in its nursery pot. We secure it inside a corrugated shipping box to reduce movement during transit.

What should I do when my plant arrives?

Answer: Unbox it promptly and check the plant and soil. If soil spilled but the plant is intact, gently return it to the pot. Check the soil before watering, and place the plant in light appropriate for its species. Give it time to adjust before repotting or fertilizing; repot when the plant needs it and is actively growing, rather than by a fixed season.
